“It’s our job to keep punktry elite,” lead singer, Brad Bevill, sings boldly in the opening track of their sophomore release, Punktry & Western Music, Vol II. Sleepin’ Rattlers bring what they’ve branded Punktry and Western Music – a mixture of old, renegade country and energy-driven punk rock. Are they punk rockers with a love for country – or is it good ol’ country boys with a love for punk? “I grew-up listening to country and western music, along with oldies and gospel. Once I discovered punk rock I quickly realized those four genres have a ton in common in terms of how the songs are constructed. I’ve always wanted to combine the elements of those genres and create something that I want to listen to.”

After a well-received debut album in 2012, Bev began writing songs in 2013 for the new release. Bevill also recorded, produced, and mixed their sophomore effort. “This was a much longer process than I had envisioned. I had hopes of releasing this album in 2014, but when you’re truly DIY in almost every way, things take time. I’m proud of this album and I’m proud that we did it ourselves, our way, on our time,” Bevill said.

Combining bold lyrics with brash punk beats and country & western melodies, Sleepin’ Rattlers have a truly unique sound that will bounce between banjo and acoustic bass in a verse to distorted guitars and punk rock drum beats in a chorus – within the same song.

As important as it was to make a good record, it was just as important to make that record with friends. “I just wanted to do this with our buddies and I wanted it to be more dynamic than is possible with five musicians,” said Bevill. So the Sleepin’ Rattlers added guest vocals from Jason Vandygriff (Von Ehrics) and Cxs Smyers (Re-Mo’sGreyskullRamonahs). They also added Aaron Wynne (Eleven Hundred SpringsMo Robson Band) on steel guitar and Hallie Yarbrough (2008 Louisiana State Fiddle Champion, Charlie Daniels Band) on fiddle.

With their second full-length record, Punktry & Western Music Vol II, out (on October 9, 2015) and a blue-collar work ethic that has these boys ready to hit the road – keep an eye out for the Sleepin’ Rattlers as they slither “town to town trying to find a place called home.”
